Controlled vocabulary and you: a panel discussion on addressing/redressing terminologies through new and existing vocabularies

Abstract

In this lightly moderated panel on reparative description and controlled vocabulary, we hear from people involved in creating or editing/remediating controlled vocabularies from four different projects: the African-American Subject Funnel Project, Chicano Thesaurus, Lau Ā Lau Ka ʻIke, and the RBMS Controlled Vocabulary Group. The panelists discuss their projects, how these vocabularies or thesauri can be used – especially to redress pejorative or harmful terminology – and their process and priorities.
