Item 14 - ALA dues & Dues Discussion

Abstract

Changes to ALA's dues rates for Library Support Staff basic membership, some divisions and round tables became effective Sept 1st. A number of divisions have either raised their dues or are including a dues increase on the ballot in the spring. Each division needs to evaluate its dues structure periodically in terms of rate and categories of membership. In a recent analysis of YALSA’s dues, it was found that it costs YALSA $44 to serve each member while dues are $40. At the BARC Fall Meeting a discussion about the possibility of raising ALA’s dues (up to 30%) took place.
