This archived webinar was originally presented April 17, 2012, , as the first of four webinars in the 2012 "Public Librarian’s Guide to E-Books: A PLA Webinar Series." Running time: 53 minutes. Learning Outcomes: At the conclusion of this on-demand webinar, participants will: Gain insight into the current popular e-book devices that library patrons are using including Kindles, Nooks, Sony Readers, and tablets/mobile devices; Review some of the current e-book platforms and learn the pros and cons of those, including Overdrive, 3M, and Baker and Taylor Blio; Learn methods for training staff and for teaching patrons about using e-books at the library; Learn methods for starting a circulating e-reader collection at the library. Instructor: Lynnanne Pearson is the manager of adult popular services at the award-winning Skokie Public Library in northern Illinois. An avid reader, Lynnanne is a big fan of e-books as she can finally carry dozens of books in her purse without the subsequent shoulder ache. In addition to becoming the favorite librarian of seniors whose grandchildren gift them with e-readers, Lynnanne, in the last 2 years, has trained staff and patrons on e-readers and e-books. She organized and oversees the circulating collection of e-readers at her library and does collection development for the downloadable e-books. Lynnanne has presented at many library conferences and is thrilled to present this E-Books 101 workshop.en_US
