Abstract

It is fun to be a teen at the Detroit (Mich.) Public Library. You get to participate in workshops like Bike Tech, Graphic Design, Crafternoon, Robotics, and Music Electronics. You can learn how to solder and sew and practice computer programming and print-making. Participants not only have fun, they also become more creative, more confident and seekers of new information. Learn how the library established its HYPE Teen Center and Makerspace and created a culture of teamwork, imagination, and hands-on experience for its teens. Originally presented March 20, 2013, as part of the 2013 PLA Virtual Spring Symposium. Running time: 1 hour, 2 minutes.
