ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 10, Number 81 November 15, 2001 In this issue: The Washington Office is pleased to announce an internal staff change. Claudette Tennant, former Assistant Director for the Office of Government Relations, has become the new Internet Policy Specialist for the Office for Information Technology Policy. This exciting move allows Claudette to apply her expertise on Internet governance and telecommunications issues to policy-making initiatives and activities. Instead of lobbying to ensure congressional support for favorable library-related policy, she will have the opportunity to help shape some of the policies most important to libraries. Claudette will also serve as staff liaison to ALA's E-rate Task Force. Claudette has been with the Washington Office for six years, beginning in 1995 as a Legislative Information Specialist. Over the last few years, Claudette has been primarily lobbying for the E-rate and against mandatory Internet restriction in libraries. Tennant says, "I am excited about my decision to change to policy work. I'm looking forward to examining issues that I'm very familiar with from new perspectives." ****** ALAWON (ISSN 1069-7799) is a free, irregular publication of the American Library Association Washington Office.
