ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 10, Number 64 September 6, 2001 In this issue: UCITA training available at Practicing Law Institute The Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act will be the focus of a day-long seminar being offered by the Practicing Law Institute on October 17, 2001 in New York City. "This in-depth program will cover the impact of UCITA on traditional contract concepts such as assent, battle of the forms, perfect tender and warranties. The interplay between UCITA and intellectual property law, licensing and software development will be discussed. Further drafting and operational suggestions will be presented." The keynote speaker will be New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer who introduced bomb-shelter legislation in the New York legislature and vigorously opposed consumer amendments supported by other attorneys general. This workshop is appropriate for librarians involved in licensing and attorneys working with libraries. Partial and full scholarships are available for librarians and those in nonprofit organizations. Requests for funding assistance are due 4 weeks prior to the seminar.
