ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 14, Number 119 Date December 1, 2005 In This Issue: Online Registration Extended for 2006 Advocacy Institute CHICAGO - Nov. 30, 2005 - Online registration has been extended through January 6, 2006, for the Advocacy Institute at the ALA 2006 Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio. The Advocacy Institute is open to all library advocates, including those otherwise not participating in the ALA 2006 Midwinter Meeting. The program will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2006, at the Hilton Palacio del Rio in San Antonio. On-site registration will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Registration for both ALA members and non-members is $25 and includes lunch. To register, visit . Attendees of the Advocacy Institute will learn strategies to successfully advocate for their libraries, including message development, lobbying basics and how to create coalitions with library staff members, trustees and Friends. The program is designed for new advocates or anyone wanting to refresh their skills. Guest speakers include ALA Immediate Past-President Carol A. Brey-Casiano; Sally Reed, Executive Director, FOLUSA and Chair, ALA Public Awareness Committee; and Glenn Miller, Executive Director, Pennsylvania Library Association. It is co-sponsored by the Texas Library Association, New Mexico Library Association, and Arkansas Library Association and coordinated by the Advocacy Institute Task Force of the Public Awareness Committee, The Association for Library Trustees and Advocates (ALTA), The Chapter Relations Committee, The Committee on Legislation and Friends of Libraries USA.
