ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 8, Number 9 January 27, 1999 In this issue: Costabile and Tennant Receive Promotions at ALA Washington Office Mary Rae Costabile has been promoted to the position of Associate Director of the ALA Washington Office as of January 25, 1999, becoming a senior member of the lobbying team. Costabile, previously Assistant Director, has been with the Washington Office for nine years, and as a lobbyist for the most recent five years. Costabile has coordinated the annual National Library Legislative Day and grassroots activities with library supporters. She specializes in budget and appropriations issues, works with coalitions such as the Committee for Education Funding, and serves as liaison to ALA's three youth divisions. Her previous work experience included legislative and lobbying with the Maryland state legislature and Montgomery County, Maryland. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland College of Library and Information Services. Claudette Tennant has been promoted to the position of Assistant Director of the ALA Washington Office as of January 25, 1999, becoming a member of the lobbying team. Tennant, previously Legislative Information Specialist, has been with the Washington Office for four years. Tennant has provided research, reference and legislative tracking support to the lobbying team. She has also been a member of the technology team, and implemented a grassroots advocacy database and the Legislative Action Center portion of the Washington Office Web site. Her previous experience included an internship and reference work at the USA Today library, responding to reporters on deadline.
