As yet, no bill has been introduced, but it is expected this week. Library literacy (LSCA VI), and Higher Education Act Library fellowships and institutes (HEA II-B) are especially vulnerable because they were not included in the President's budget last year, have been targeted by the same subcommittee before, and do not spend out grant dollars until later in the year. *************************************************************************** ACTION ALERT APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEES SHOULD BE CONTACTED ABOUT THREATENED RESCISSIONS ACTION NEEDED: Library literacy supporters and library school students should take the opportunity to communicate with committee members and individual Representatives and Senators. Although these two programs are not large by federal spending standards, they have profound effects both in the community and in the library profession. Cutting either program would have a serious and extremely unfortunate impact on new readers and on the library profession. The members of the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor-HHS-Education are: * MAJORITY: * MINORITY: John Edward Porter, IL, Chair David R. Obey, WS C.W.
