ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 15, Number 68 Date: July 13, 2006 ****** In this issue: DOL Announces $125 Million for Community-Based Job Training Grants ****** Last week, the Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration announced the availability of $125 million for the President's Community-Based Job Training Grants, a program designed to strengthen community colleges and their role in the U.S. workforce. According to the Department of Labor, "Funds will be awarded to individual community and technical colleges, community college districts, state community college systems, One-Stop Career Centers, and other entities in areas without access to community colleges. Awardees will support or engage in activities for the purpose of building the capacity of community colleges to train for careers in high growth, high demand industries in regional economies." All of the above-listed organizations are eligible to apply for these funds, and the Employment and Training Administration expects to make approximately 75 individual awards, ranging from $500,000 to $2 million each.
