ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 15, Number 47 Date: April 27, 2006 In This Issue: ALA Survey of Library networks, Cooperatives and Consortia Extended through May 15th ALA has extended the date for the baseline web-based survey of library networks, cooperatives and consortia to provide more time for organization response. The ALA Office for Research & Statistics (ORS), in collaboration with the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA), coordinates this project. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and is online at http://lnccsurvey.html . The survey site also has survey instructions and a copy of the questionnaire to review before completing it online. This is a multi-year study beginning with a baseline survey to determine the universe of these library organizations. A second, more detailed, survey will be conducted in fall 2006. The final products of these surveys will include a web-based directory of library cooperatives, an online report generator, slide presentations about the project and outcomes, and a final written report, including success stories. This research project will result in a clear and current understanding of how library cooperatives operate, and the many ways in which these collaborative organizations help to advance learning communities. This project is funded in part by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is coordinated by the ALA Office for Research & Statistics (ORS) in collaboration with the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA). The team of RSL Research Group is analyzing responses and preparing a final report. The project timeline is 2006 and 2007. For more information, contact Denise M.
