Goals, Objectives, Projects completed (including, but not
limited to, any procedures, tip sheets, checklists, etc. created during the
reporting year):
The committee was
charged with helping incoming president Amanda Roberts prepare for her 2007 presidential
year. Amanda initially asked the
committee to help her with two projects.
In early 2006, Amanda asked for help with a third project. The committee completed work on all three
projects.
The committee researched and
compiled a proposal for creating a scholarly print journal sponsored by NMRT
and written by and for NMRT members. The
purpose of the journal would be to expose NMRT members to the scholarly
publication process and to provide a venue for publication of articles related
to new librarianship. The committee submitted the proposal to supervising board
member Amanda Roberts in December 2005.
The NMRT Board reviewed (but did not accept) the proposal at its 2006
ALA Midwinter meeting in
The committee completed preliminary
planning for the 2007 NMRT Presidential Program. With approval of and funding from the NMRT
Board, the committee has retained Pat Wagner of Pattern Research, Denver,
Colorado, to present her seminar entitled "Navigating the Rapids: Myths
and Realities of Intergenerational Workplaces.”

The committee completed preliminary planning for the 2007 NMRT Annual Program. The committee has submitted a proposal to Amanda Roberts for a panel discussion about utilizing skills and experience from non-library jobs in the library profession, preliminarily entitled “Using Past Lives to Launch Your Library Career.” Tentative panelists include Alexis Linowski, Deana Groves, Karen Davidson, Maureen Barry, and Bruce Stoffel. Amanda Roberts has agreed to moderate. A companion online discussion via NMRT-L would be held prior to the Annual Conference for the benefit of members unable to travel to the conference. Amanda has accepted the proposal. Final arrangements will be made next year by the Membership Meeting and Program Committee. With respect to this project, the work of the committee is complete.
Action Items/Issues To Be Resolved – What plans/projects
remain which will be carried over or postponed until next year? Have there been
any substantial changes in plans requiring a reconsideration or cancellation of
projects? Information regarding such will be helpful for future chairs and
planners.
Final arrangements for the Presidential Program and the Annual Program will be made in 2006-2007 by the President's Program Committee and the Membership Meeting and Program Committee.
