NMRT Board Member Final Report

1. Office Name: Vice-President

2. Office Term :  2004-2005

3. Discuss/summarize your involvement with your committees this year:

Reviewing progress of impending programs for the presidential year, reviewing committee volunteer forms and assigning members and chairs to NMRT committees.

4. Based on your year's experience in this office, what future directions do you see your office or NMRT needing to take this year or the following year?

Depending on the outcome of the Organizational Review and the decision of the Executive Board, there will be either a restructuring or elimination of some NMRT committees.

A contingency plan is in place to incorporate specific committees, such as Publicity being a main function of award and social function committees. However, I see NMRT directors coordinating this aspect in order ensure wide publicity is achieved. Should Diversity Committee be eliminated from NMRT, it is my goal to create a “Diversity Project Management Team” within Membership, Promotion and Relations Committee to address the issue of “diversity” within NMRT.

Since my presidential year will focus on “outreach” it is my intended goal to have most of the committees incorporate that theme with respect to committee tasks.

5. What tips or hints do you have that might help your successor carry out the duties of this office?

I would suggest to the incoming vice-president to solicit recommendations from the NMRT President, Directors, and chairs.

6. Please address the role of the board member as coordinator. For example, with student outreach split among three committees reporting to three directors, somebody will need to take the initiative to make sure things are going smoothly. Another example would be projects between membership, alumni, and student outreach which need to be coordinated. How might activities such as this be handled by board members efficiently and smoothly? Your thoughts here will be most helpful for future boards.

Until the recommendations of the Organizational Review are voted on by the NMRT Executive Board and implemented, it is pointless in making suggestions based on the current NMRT organizational structure.
