**Committee Charge:  The purpose of the Footnotes Committee is to produce a newsletter for NMRT members.

 

**2004 - 2005 Project Description / Goals: 

 

  1. Gather information and articles for issues in the newsletter by sending calls for submissions to NMRTBD and NMRT-L.
  2. Prepare data for copy and layout of issues (web layout in August, November, and February; paper layout in May).
  3. Upload the web files for the online distribution of August, November and February issues.
  4. Send e-mail alert to ALA publishing office announcing release of online issues.
  5. Send layout of paper May issue to ALA publishing office for printing and distribution.  

 

**Specific Objectives (numbers, tangible end-products): 

This committee year, preferably by the November issue, the Footnotes Committee needs to work with the NMRT Web Committee to create an online template for the CMS version of Footnotes. Currently Footnotes is being hosted on outside servers (http://www.louisville.edu/~tlholt02/nmrt/Footnotes/august2004/index.html and http://www.nova.edu/%7Edantet/nmrt/ala04gallery.html)

 

In addition, the Footnotes Committee needs to investigate the following creation methods for the May paper version of Footnotes (In the past, each Footnotes Editor has donated the use of his/her personal or institution's copy of desktop publishing software):

1)      Submit a proposal to the NMRT Board for purchase of a copy of desktop publishing software (PageMaker, Quark, or other) OR

2)      Use committee funds to pay ALA Publishing to lay out the May paper version.

 

Lastly, the Editor will work on streamlining the submissions process by creating a separate email account for Footnotes submissions.

Specific Needs/Support (non-financial): (For the categories below, please include approximate date service needed)

a.      Web Support (help with webpage creation, web form creation, web database, web database, scripting, etc): The Footnotes Committee will need the immediate help and cooperation of the NMRT Web Committee to publish the entire content of the November issue in CMS format. The Committee will need this help during the month of October (2004). Note that because the Footnotes Committee is under strict deadlines, this help is time-sensitive.

 

b. On-site conference volunteers: (include estimated numbers needed and brief job description)  None.

 

c. Publicity planned for the committee (posting to other discussion lists, official press release for webpage, etc.): 

Each online issue of Footnotes (August, November, February) will be announced to each NMRT member through an online email alert service. In addition, each issue is publicized on NMRT-L and, of course, on the NMRT Website at http://www.ala.org/ala/nmrt/footnotes/index.htm. The paper version of Footnotes will be sent to each NMRT member and will be distributed at the ALA NMRT professional booth at the ALA Annual 2005 Conference.
