Welcome Information for NMRTWRITER list

NMRTWriter is a discussion list dedicated to supporting librarians looking to write and publish articles, books, grant narratives, or other scholarly communications. We are here to help generate and define topics, discuss the submission process, and share all the tips and hints we can.  Experienced as well as novice writers are encouraged to participate.

At this point, NMRTWriter is unmoderated.  That means you could send a message about your new kitten, if you wanted to.  We strongly encourage you not to do so, and to keep the discussion on the topic of creating written work and submitting such works for publication.  Likewise, to keep the discussion useful, we would like to stay away from job-related tangents (i.e. should librarians have faculty status?) that are better discussed on other lists.

Some possible topics for discussion on NMRTWriter:

 - Research I'd like to see: Topics that you, for whatever reason, don't feel qualified to write about but would sure like to see someone else tackle

 - Help with a topic: For when you have a general idea but would like to narrow it down

 - Instructions to writers: From all library-oriented (or even related) journals

 - Commentary from editors of academic journals, or from experienced peer reviewers

 - Web pages of library-oriented or otherwise related journals

 - Recommended books or articles about producing professional writing

 - Fiction writing, if library-related

 - Calls for manuscripts

 - Calls for reviewers

 - Process of submission: what to expect when you submit a manuscript for publication

 - Requests for partners, either to co-write or to help with a draft manuscript

 - Small questions of grammar, punctuation and formatting

Please do not post entire drafts of articles for commentary.  Instead, writers may request volunteers from the list to review their rough drafts.
