**Activity in Current Reporting Period
Projects completed (For example, any procedures, tip sheets, checklists, etc. created during this period):
Formed four "teams" within SASCO: Electronic Resources, Newsletter, SCOYTA, and Unit Liaisons. The teams will ensure that the objectives needed to meet SASCO goals will be completed.
New SASCO email, firstname.lastname@example.org, created.
Distributed four monthly newsletters for LIS students during the fall and the beginning of the spring semesters, distributed through SASCO members to program contacts.
Appointed Lyssa Oberkreser as 2003 Chair of the Student Chapter of the Year Award (SCOTYA).
Jury for SCOTYA has been selected.
Updated membership list on NMRTSTUDL, SASCO's group communication list for students. Advertising has started to encourage students to join the list.
Projects in progress but not yet completed:
Continuous updating LIS program student chapter contact database. To date, SASCO committee members have successfully contacted roughly 45% of 156 schools with library and information science education programs. This includes both ALA accredited and non-accredited programs.
Advertising of SCOTYA award, along with encouraging nominations from student chapters.
Updating of SASCO web pages. The School Chapter of the Year Award page has been almost fully updated. The goal is to have all pages updated by the end of April.
Starting and encouraging use of NMRTSTUDL for discussion and exchange of information among library school students.
**Action Items/Issues To Be Resolved (What is left to do, based on your Planning Report?
Have there been any substantial changes in plans since then? What items, if any, have been deferred until next year?):
Preparation and issuance of at least two more monthly newsletters for LIS students.
Continue to update member list on NMRTSTUDL, advertise listserv to students encouraging them to join list. At present, information that is posted to NMRTSTUDL is duplicated from information sent directly to the library programs via SASCO committee members. The goal is to initiate discussion around specific topics among students, similar to the "Monthly discussion topics" on NMRT-L.
Prepare to administer the Student Chapter of the Year award.
Work with Chair of Student Reception committee to finalize plans for the
presentation of Student Chapter of the Year Award at ALA Annual.
