ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 14, Number 88 September 2, 2005 In This Issue: Update on PATRIOT Action Alert Earlier this week we informed you about an opportunity to host a screening of a new DVD, "Beyond the Patriot Act", the first episode in the upcoming series The ACLU Freedom Files. Some of you wanted to schedule your event for Thursday September 8, so you and your patrons could join in a national conference call with Anthony Romero, Executive Director of the ACLU, to learn the most up-to- date status of PATRIOT Act legislation. Due to a terrific response, however, Active Voice is no longer able to guarantee that libraries will receive their copy before Sept 8. Debate over PATRIOT reauthorization will continue through the month of September. If you are able to schedule a screening of the DVD before September 19th, your efforts will still be very helpful. Please do contact Active Voice if you are interested in organizing a public program after September 8th at FreedomFiles@activevoice.net, or call (415) 553-2841. And please also call your Senators and Congresspeople and ask them to support the Senate version of the PATRIOT Reauthorization bill. Capitol switchboard number is: (202) 224-3121. Thank you. ****** ALAWON (ISSN 1069-7799) is a free, irregular publication of the American Library Association Washington Office.
