We do need you to call your Representative now and ask him or her to: 1) Support Flake/Schiff's amendment #59 – that requires that the Director of the FBI must personally approve any library or bookstore request for records by the FBI under section 215. 2) Support an amendment to be offered by Flake/Delahunt/ Otter/Nadler (#54) would give recipients of a National Security Letter the right to challenge the order and the right to challenge the gag order. It also allows the right to consult an attorney in order to challenge the order. The U.S. House of Representatives is debating HR 3199, the reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act TODAY, July 21st. A vote could happen late today or early on Friday.
