U.S. Representative Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) To Speak at Annual Conference in Orlando United States Representative Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) will discuss issues surrounding appropriations and library funding, legislation pertinent to libraries, and the controversy surrounding the USA PATRIOT Act at the Washington Briefing Saturday, June 26, at 8:30 a.m. in OCC 224 A/B. Rep. Grijalva is a long-time library champion, most recently spearheading efforts in the House of Representatives to increase funding levels for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) to $232 million and for Improving Literacy Through School Libraries to $100 million. Rep. Grijalva gained the support of 56 House colleagues, who signed onto his request to the House Appropriations Committee to increase funding for key library programs. Grijalva was also one of the original co-sponsors of the Freedom to Read Protection Act, and he took an early interest in REFORMA, helping it to build a relationship with the U.S. Congress. Rep. Grijalva's wife, Ramona, is a librarian.
