ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 12, Number 99 December 1, 2003 In This Issue: FY2004 Omnibus Appropriation Conference Agreement Released On Friday, the FY2004 Omnibus Appropriation Conference Agreement was released. The Improving Literacy Through School Libraries Grant Program was funded at $19.960 million. The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) was funded at $262,596,000, including $11,330,000 for National Leadership grants for libraries, $20,000 for 21st Century Librarian Initiative, and $6,300,000 for Administration for Libraries. (Museum funding is $31,540,000.) Funding for state library grants did not increase enough to cover the new funding formula. We are unclear about how the .59% rescission will affect the final numbers. Congress will vote on the Appropriations numbers either next week or in January.
