ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 12, Number 45 May 23, 2003 In This Issue: SPEAK TO SENATORS OVER THE RECESS Thanks to all attendees of the very successful National Library Legislative Day events on May 12 and 13. In terms of reauthorization of the Museum and Library Services Act, S. 888, that contains the Library Services and Technology Act, there are now, thanks to your efforts, 46 Senators who have joined on to co-sponsor the bill. Sponsors can be added at any time up to the Senate floor vote. Since we are beginning the Memorial Day recess, if you attend an event or see your Senators at home during the recess, please remind them that if they haven't sponsored the bill yet, there is still time to do so. We should also urge them to support the highest possible level of funding, i.e., $250 million that is in S. 888 for library programs. Senators wishing to co-sponsor the Museum and Library Services Act of 2003 should contact Tracy Locklin on Senator Gregg's staff at (202) 224-6770. To see if your Senators have joined the list of sponsors check: http://www.THOMAS.gov under the bill number, S. 888, and click on bill summary and status. ****** ALAWON (ISSN 1069-7799) is a free, irregular publication of the American Library Association Washington Office.
