ALAWON: American Library Association Washington Office Newsline Volume 11, Number 39 May 1, 2002 In This Issue: [1] ACT! LSTA VOTE IN THE HOUSE [2] Correction to ALAWON of 4/12/02 [1] LSTA VOTE IN THE HOUSE We are expecting a vote on the Museum and Library Services Act Reauthorization next week, but if not, the week after. Now is the time to call your Representatives and urge them to vote for Reauthorization. This legislation contains the Library Services and Technology Act and would increase the base amount going to each state from $340,000 to $500,000. It would require a yearly analysis of library programs in the states and double the authorization level of LSTA to $300 million. We need every Member of Congress getting calls from the district telling them how important this legislation is to your community. Capitol switchboard number is: 202-224-3121. And the folks from Michigan need to call Representative Pete Hoekstra and thank him for moving this legislation so quickly and effectively. His office number is 202-225-4401 or the local office in Holland is 616-395-0030. He is new to library legislation and worked hard for us. Please tell him of your appreciation.
