Sunday, June 16th, 1:30-3:00 The Creative Commons Larry Lessig is Professor of Law at Stanford, founder of the School's Center for Internet and Society, and author of The Future of Ideas. Business Week named Lessig one of the "most influential people in electronic business." Professor Lessig will explore the importance of establishing and protecting a public domain of creative works and finding a middle ground beyond the extremism that dominates the current copyright debates. Monday, June 17th, 9:00 to noon Old, New, Borrowed and Blue: Science and Technology Intellectual Property Issues in the Digital Age This panel will explore the effects of recent patent legislation, licensing, and copyright on access to scientific information. Speakers include Alan Covich Professor of Fishery and Wildlife Biology, Colorado State University; Linda S. Dobb, Executive Vice President of Bowling Green State University; and Carrie Russell, Copyright Specialist, OITP. The National Academy of Public Administration and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University announce the "Personal Privacy in the Digital Age: The Challenge to State & Local Governments" conference - May 19 & 21, 2002 at the Hilton Crystal City in Arlington, VA.
